Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station was the last coal power plant in the UK, closing on 30th September 2024.
This work, Soft Power, honours the brutalist landmark—a sign for many that they are nearly home—and reflects the UK’s ongoing move towards decarbonisation. The steam that once rose from its towers is echoed here as a functional incense burner.
Made from Jesmonite—an eco-friendly, heat-resistant compound—each piece is handmade in my Nottingham studio. Every sculpture is unique, with slight variations in colour. Thirty were initially produced for the first edition and these are numbered and stamped on the base.
One stainless steel interior heat guard and a Satya incense cone are included with each order.
Ships September 2025 – one year on from the station’s closure.
